The Glass Gooseberry Necklace you see here features five of my handmade glass ripe gooseberries with a handmade green glass leaf. The gooseberries range from about 12mm to 15mm in diameter. All are suspended on 14/20 Gold-Filled figure-eight chain. The copper wire stem of each gooseberry is embedded inside the glass and cannot be pulled free. Like real gooseberries, each of mine is a translucent green with delicate white veins running over its surface from the stem to the dried flower at the tip, and you can see the seeds inside. The edges of the glass dried flower at the end of each gooseberry have been rounded so they will not snag on clothing. These beads are hand-formed in the flame of a torch from colored glass and copper. As a result, the color will not rub, flake or chip off, and no two gooseberries are exactly alike.
The standard length for the figure-eight chain you see above is 20 inches and it is finished with a lobster clasp. The necklace is centered when worn at 18 inches, but you may wear it at any length from 17 to 19 inches by clipping the lobster into the link of your choice. The free end of the chain is finished with a small matching glass leaf. Different lengths and clasp styles are available by special order.
